The Harrisonburg High School Blue Streaks volleyball team played their hearts out on Thursday night. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t quite enough. In a hostile road match, the Streaks clashed with the Eastern Mennonite Flames for the second time in two weeks and went toe to toe until the end. After losing the first match up in three straight sets, it did not look good for the Streaks when they quickly dropped the first set. Yet they bounced back and rallied to win two of the next three sets, forcing a dramatic fifth set. Led by seniors Mikala Wolter and Sarina Hartman and freshman standout Chrisalyn Johnson, the Streaks stayed in it, but unfortunately lost a close set by a score of 15-13. If a volleyball game comes down to a fifth set, only 15 points are played to instead of the usual 25.

“It was a really close game, it came down to the wire,” said senior Will Turner. “The gym [at EMHS] is really small so everything is a lot louder in there.”

Despite being a road game, HHS had quite a few fans show up to cheer for their Streaks. It was not as strong a turnout as a home game, but the girls rose to the occasion and put up quite a fight. The Streaks are now 2-2 and look to bounce back against Fort Defiance on Tuesday, September 16th. The game will be played at Fort at 6:45.
