From May 17th to 21st students from all grades flooded room 444 with thousands upon thousands of pennies. The SCA held the second annual penny wars as part of the 2009-2010 class wars competition. There was exponentially more participation this year, probably due to the prize: A day off school to watch a movie in the auditorium and have lunch catered by Texas Roadhouse.
Students rounded up all the pennies and spare change they could find. Some even pulled major money out of their own pocket. Sophomore Corey Stader brought 30 dollars worth of pennies, and Sophomores Emmett Copeland and Marshall Hyser pooled enough money from the student body to get two bricks (25 dollars worth) of pennies from the bank. Shouts of “Bring your pennies!” filled the halls, and various reminder texts were sent out. After the competition ended on Friday, May 21st the SCA was faced with the task of counting all the change. Once every last penny was counted, the junior class emerged victorious and enjoyed watching Fired Up while munching on some good ol’ Texan food.
