On the last Saturday in February, the indoor track team state qualifiers traveled to Lynchburg, VA to participate in the state track meet held at Liberty University. Those who went included Rebekah Good and Tyler Horne in the shot put, Akia Morris in the 55m dash, Olivia Yutzy in the 55m hurdles, Akia Morris (again), Faith Runnells, Lexi Eberly, and Mikaila Williams in the 4x200m relay, and Jonas Zimmermann in the 3200m run.
Rebekah Good placed 6th overall in the shot put, breaking the school record which was her’s already, by an entire foot.
Senior Akia Morris took 5th in the 55m dash, also breaking her school record by five hundredths of a second, with a time of 7.30 seconds.
“It felt amazing to break the record. I accomplished everything I’ve always wanted. I had this feeling even before the race started that this was just going to be it for me,” Morris said.
Freshman Olivia Yutzy finished the season with 5th all time in the hurdles at HHS, although she did not place at states.
“Doing the hurdles was a really good experience and I learned a lot,” Yutzy said.
The 4x200m relay placed 7th in the state, and was the 2nd fastest all-time at HHS.
Senior Tyler Horne finished 17th in the state in shot put, and Jonas Zimmermann ran a time of 10:25 seconds for his 3200m run.
Overall, the team had a very successful meet.
“Even though we will be in an even better division next year, we still have some really good athletes and I think we’ll be able to go on to regionals and states again,” Yutzy said.
