The general information about the 4-Wheel club.
During activity period 2, people find their way to a club in the sea of people. Five students make their way to a club that is very exclusive, only people with 4-Wheel drive vehicles and a license can join.
“Basically [during activity period] we talk about how to modify our vehicles and we also talk about when and where we’ll go 4-wheeling. One of our upcoming activities will include a trail clean up day. On this day we will clean up trash left by other people and perform trail maintenance. We go to a place called Salt Shack, Switzer Dam, Union Springs, and Briar Branch,” club sponsor Mac Bair said.
Bair and club members experience different trails and clean several of them as well.
The club was created when a student who shared Bair’s interest of 4-Wheel driving came up to him with the idea for the club.
“It started four years ago by a student who was interested by off roading and knew I had the same interest and he approached me about getting a club started.” Bair said.
Before getting the club started Bair had to get approval from Principal Irene Reynolds.
“We had to explain to her what 4-Wheeling really was. Once we told her we’d be doing trail clean ups and what the club was about, she was all for it,” Bair said.
With the price of gas going up, Bair believes people will still join the club.
“I’ve only had one or two people mention gas or gas mileage. We’re driving vehicles that don’t have good gas mileage to begin with. It’s part of the hobby,” Bair said.
Junior Dane Neary believes it is a great opportunity to gain new friends and show off his vehicle.
“I joined because it was a great opportunity to meet new people that shared my interest of 4-wheel driving, and I just got a new 4-wheel vehicle I also joined because the 4-Wheel drive club is manly, and I wanted to seem more manly, I can’t wait to show off my manliness.” Neary said.
Junior Preston Grogg thinks it is one of the best clubs the school has to offer.
“It’s the coolest club ever, because Mr. Bair is the coolest person ever. I joined because it would be something fun to do outside of school,” Grogg said.
