Nice Try, French Connection

Posted by
The other day, I got an email from French Connection linking me to their new must haves for fall.

Nice try, French Connection, but no one is wearing this:

As has been said before, rompers are not cool, no matter what fashion says. So, if a romper looks dumb, a jumpsuit—yes, they call it a jumpsuit—are even worse.  I mean, seriously. What the what is that? If I were to strut in to class dressed like that, I would not be getting the admiring glances French Connection is promising.

This is a very becoming look for the fashion conscious woman who wants peeing to be as difficult as possible.

Nice Try, French Connection.

With five inch wedges, it isn't so terrible. To truly grasp the stupidity, you have to imagine that she's wearing flats, and also it not five foot eleven and ninety five pounds.

So, according to that email, midis are back. For those of you who don’t know, midis are skirts that end at about mid calf. They were popular in the 1970’s among business women and are still popular among frumpy middle aged ladies.

I know some people who wear long skirts worry that they are wearing awkward midis. They’re not. I have not seen a midi on anyone since about 1997. If the skirt is above your knee, just below your knee (about four inches), or down to the top of your ankles, you are fine. This hits in the mid shin area and makes the wearer’s legs look less Cameron Diaz, more Cotton Hill.

French Connection is trying to market this unfortunate mess to girls in their late teens and mid twenties. No, French Connection, this is not the cool skirt this year. No one is going to think “oh, wow, what a fashionable woman” if they wear a midi. This:

is not going to happen. To anyone. Ever.

Who is going to dress like this? Other than a few art students in New York for a week and half?

Nice try, French Connection.
