Sharia law too often misrepresented

You know what makes me ill? False statements about the so called “scary” sharia law. It doesn’t only make me ill, it makes me angry, sad, and a little pessimistic as far as the future goes for Muslims in America. We have been bombarded with ignorant remarks from all over the world, and it’s not because we’re bad, it’s because some don’t read or research before they talk. Yeah, a lot of people are tolerant, but the few that aren’t taint the principles of freedom and make Muslims like me…well, mad.

So what is Sharia law? Well, it doesn’t say men have to hang whips in their homes and use them on women, that’s for sure! But I have heard that argument many times, which is weird because it has no basis in Islam. Also, sharia doesn’t make women less than men in anything, either in the house or in the public. In fact, some of the first Muslim scholars were women. Yet, I see the many news reports of bigots accusing Sharia of sexism.

Sharia just mean law, or code, in Arabic. It’s for Muslims only, and if others wish to do things that the Sharia is against, like murder, theft and adultery, then I guess that’s fine too. One of the laws of Sharia, is that it should not be used by force. I mean, how do you force someone to fast? The Sharia is just what Muslims do to be Muslims. It’s like the ten commandments that Christians, or some Christians, go by. Nothing more, nothing less. Praying, fasting and going on a pilgrimage to Mecca are not going to be the Constitution’s next amendments, so that argument of “They’re trying to force it on us!” fails.

So next time you hear someone say “Dem Muzlims are trying to take away our freedom with their Sharia,” know that they’re bigots who have nothing else to say.
