I couldn’t get to sleep last night no matter how hard I tried. Every twenty minutes or so, I would wake up with some crazy thought in my head that would keep me thinking for another hour. I was also sick, and I still am, so maybe that also contributed to my weird sleeping pattern.
The thoughts I had were pretty important though, as I touched on controversial issues and other political ones. As all of you know, Obama gave his new job’s plan speech Thursday night, and believe it or not, that’s partly what kept me up last night. I kept thinking about what needs to happen for the act to pass, what it’s components were, and if it’s just talk. I think all of us should care and take the time to know what is going on in our country so that political talk doesn’t blind us. Yes the speech was good, as all Obama’s speeches are, but will these good words turn into action? For some reason, that was what woke me up at three am. I even dreamed about it. Call me crazy, because I am.
The second thought that woke me up was..yeah, you guessed it! The sexualizing of young girls. That isn’t because I’m weird. It’s because I think Toddlers and Tiaras is horrifying. I mean, what do you call a mom who gives her 4 year old a padded bra to wear? There are so many words I can use to describe a parent that is that stupid, I’d rather not even start making that list. It makes me so mad to see that young girls grow up thinking they have to fit a certain image or else they won’t be pretty, or sexy. A young girl should not have to go through that thought process. The media, school mates, and society in general put so much pressure on girls and for some parents to play into that disgusting trend doesn’t make it any better. I consider that abuse, and if a mom or dad truly think that giving their daughters padded bras and smothering their faces with makeup to look nice is a good idea, then they should not be parents at all. I’m not a parent, but I know that putting young girls through that is not the best parenting technique. Just listen to middle school girls talk and you’d be appalled by what some of them say, whether they’re describing a party scene or what they do with their boyfriends. I know because I used to have eighth graders on my bus last year and some of the things they said just made me feel like our generation is doomed, and it’s because a lot of people don’t take the time to teach their children right from wrong.
Eventually, after all this thinking, by brain got tired and I went to sleep, but I did enjoy my thinking time, even though my thoughts were random. I guess that’s why I named my blog Random Ramblings.
